Pain Management and Palliative Care
A gentle treatment that can help to alleviate many of your pet’s symptoms
Palliative Care and Pain Management
Palliative Care focuses on managing symptoms from serious illness, minimizing side effects from medications, and helping caregivers and their pets better cope with the changes from disability or chronic illness. This type of care involves not only medical management and education on what to monitor, but also recommendations for nutrition and diet, environmental modifications, and ideas for enrichment social/emotional support. Palliative care differs from hospice, in that it can be started at anytime in the course of a chronic illness, and patients can also receive treatment for their disease at the same time. Palliative care focuses on quality of life of the family and the pet.
We would consider implementing palliative care for chronic diseases such as:
- Heart disease
- Kidney failure
- Liver disease
- Arthritis
- Cancer
- Cognitive Dysfunction
- Diabetes
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- Seizures/Epilepsy
- Degenerative Myelopathy
- Intervertebral Disc Disease
- Endocrine disease (Cushing’s, hyperthyroidism)
Many of our palliative care or hospice patients have more than one chronic illness they are trying to manage. If you are interested in scheduling a palliative care or pain management consult, please call or text us at 804-476-2338 or email us at info@lovingkindnessvet.com.
Virtual Consultation
Our hospice and palliative care consult begins with an initial virtual conversation with our hospice nurse/tech. This will help define you and your pet’s needs and determine if hospice is the best next step.
